Amedeo Modigliani was a 20th century painter and sculptor of Italian/Jewish descent who worked principally in France. He is noted for his paintings of elongated figures and faces such as Jeanne in Straw Hat 1917 . Modigliani’s paintings did not find success until after his death. His large nude painting "Nude on a Cushion 1917" is his most expensive painting and was sold by Christie's in New York in 2015 for $170 million. Amedeo Modigliani oil paintings were influenced by the work of Toulouse-Lautrec, and he was also a contemporary of Picasso, during his years in Paris. Modigliani died prematurely at the age of 35.
